Roman Blinds and Linings with a cotton content.

PREPARATION BEFORE MANUFACTURE  Many curtain fabrics used in the manufacture of Roman Blinds could possibly shrink or pucker if not given special attention prior to conversion into a Roman Blind.  With the exception of Roma-Line®, we recommend that most fabrics are thoroughly wet out with water, using a spray applicator, and left overnight on a flat surface to allow for any movement to settle before manufacture.  This will minimise the risk of possible shrinkage.

We cannot recommend Linings with cotton content for the manufacture of Roman Blinds.

FADING  Direct and indirect sunlight will fade most fabrics, especially in a natural cotton or polyester/cotton composition ..... however, this problem can be  minimised!

Ways of minimising fading are to ensure that the bottom panel of all Roman Blinds extends at least 100mm below the other panels when raised and that the Roman Blinds are kept lowered at all times when extreme heat or sunlight could expose the folds of the blinds to fading caused by direct or indirect sunlight.

ROMAN BLIND AND LINING SHRINKAGE  The Lining of Roman Blinds with uncoated or acrylic coated cotton, or the manufacture of Roman Blinds from any fabric which is not pre-shrunk, including cotton or polyester/cotton construction, can risk shrinkage, even before washing or dry cleaning - through the absorption of moisture from the air, or through subsequent washing or dry cleaning.

Whilst  many of our clients have used such fabrics without any repercussions, we cannot recommend, or take any responsibility for these products if used as a lining on Roman blinds, or making up of Roman Blinds.  This recommendation is made up in the interest of protecting our clients, or ourselves, from possible claims.  (Roma-Line® will not shrink when washed and does not need to be wet out before manufacture).

Please note that all Pre-Shrunk fabrics on this Buyer's Catalogue (Avoca Canvas®, Noosa Canvas®, Sienna and Roma-Line®) can be confidently used in the manufacture of Roman Blinds with minimal or no shrinkage. Seeding levels may vary from batch to batch and when compared with sample.

Roma-Line® and Noosa Canvas® are only to be used in the manufacture of Roman Blinds (not for usage in curtain manufacturing).

Panel Glide Blinds are becoming increasingly popular and the variety of fabrics available for these types of window treatments are fairly limited.  To ensure a professional finish, The Bricos Group recommend that all Panel Glide Blinds be side hemmed.  This will avoid fabrics fraying once made up.  Certain fabrics lend themselves well to being ultrasonically cut, thus sealing the edge and not requiring side hemming, however, even this type of cutting method may allow the fabric to fray over time, if each of the panels rub on one another.

Sunscreen Fabric Care Instructions

Clean with water and mild detergent/soap and rinse with clear water.  Blind can be immersed in water (remove componentry first.) Dry the fabric completely before you roll it up.  Do not use any solvents as sunscreen has a PVC coating and solvents can deteriorate the coating.  Do not use any abrasive substances, use only a soft cloth or sponge.  Avoind cleaning the fabric during hot/warm weather.

Holland Blind Care Instructions

Surface dust may be removed with a gentle brush, feather duster or clean, dry cloth.  A mild solution of detergent in warm water may be used to remove stains and smudges.  Wip with a dry sponge.  An art gum rubber is excellent for removing small marks.

Summary of UPF Ratings

The UPF value of a fabric is a measure of the Ultraviolet Radiation protection provided by that fabric. UPF ratings are determined by testing fabrics in a laboratory in accordance with the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS4399: 1996. Detailed consumer brochures explaining all the benefits of UPF rated Linings are available.
